Overview

When you compress several files at once, they all use the settings in the options sidebar. Per-file settings let you change quality, format, or size for a single file without splitting the batch into separate jobs.

How to override a file

1
Add files to the main window
2
Hover over a file and click the slider icon (Custom settings for this file). In single-file preview, the icon is always visible.
3
Change the settings in the popover. Only the options for that file’s type are shown.
4
Press Compress. Overridden settings apply to that file; every other setting follows the sidebar.
A dot on the slider icon shows that a file has custom settings.

Available settings

Choosing the target file size option for an image switches its format to JPG.

Resetting a file

  • Press Reset to global settings in the popover to clear all overrides for that file
  • Setting an option back to the sidebar’s value removes that one override

Good to know

  • Per-file settings last for the current session only. They’re cleared when you load new files, clear the list, or remove the file.
  • Per-file settings aren’t available in the file tree layout, which Compresto uses for folders or when you add more files than the Thumbnail preview limit.
  • Switching presets changes the sidebar settings but keeps your per-file overrides.
  • The slider icon is hidden while compression is running.
