# Compression presets

> Save your favorite compression settings and apply them with one click

## Overview

Presets let you save a set of compression settings under a name and switch to it with one click. Compresto ships with three built-in presets, and you can save as many of your own as you like.

## Using a preset

<Steps>
  <Step>
    Add files to the main window. The **Preset** row appears in the options sidebar once files are added.
  </Step>

  <Step>
    Open the **Preset** picker and choose a preset from **Built-in** or **My Presets**
  </Step>

  <Step>
    Press **Compress**
  </Step>
</Steps>

Choosing a preset applies its settings immediately. If you change any of those settings afterwards, the picker switches back to **Custom**.

<Note>
  The Preset picker is disabled while compression is running.
</Note>

## Built-in presets

| Preset | Image | Video | GIF | PDF & EPUB |
| - | - | - | - | - |
| **High Quality** | Highest, same format | Highest, same format and resolution | Highest, same dimension | Best |
| **Web Optimized** | Good, WebP | Good, MP4, Full HD | Good, 50% | Balance |
| **Smallest File Size** | Acceptable, WebP | Acceptable, MP4, audio removed | Acceptable, 50% | Low |

Built-in presets can't be edited or deleted.

## Saving your own preset

<Steps>
  <Step>
    Adjust the compression options in the main window
  </Step>

  <Step>
    Press **Save** next to the Preset picker
  </Step>

  <Step>
    Enter a **Preset name** and press **Save**
  </Step>
</Steps>

The new preset is selected right away and appears under **My Presets**.

## What a preset includes

| File type | Saved settings |
| - | - |
| **Image** | Quality, format, size |
| **Video** | Quality, format, resolution, remove audio |
| **GIF** | Quality, dimension |
| **PDF** | Quality |
| **EPUB** | Quality |

Output folder, file name format, **Remove input file(s)**, FPS and target file size are not part of a preset.

## Managing presets

Go to **Settings** > **Presets** to see all presets. Each one shows a short summary of its settings.

* **Edit**: Opens an editor where you can rename the preset and change its image, video, GIF, PDF, and EPUB settings. Press **Done** to save.
* **Delete**: Press the trash icon and confirm. If the deleted preset was selected, the picker switches back to **Custom**.

## Presets in Drop Zone

Drop Zone can compress with a preset too. In **Settings** > **Drop Zone**, set **Compression settings** to **Preset**, then choose the preset to use. See [Drop Zone](/docs/customization/drop-zone#compression-settings-type) for details.

<Tip>
  Need different settings for just one file in a batch? Use [per-file settings](/docs/customization/per-file-settings) instead of switching presets.
